Understanding Recovery

Understanding Post-Abortal Recovery

Clear, gentle answers to the questions women ask us most.

How soon should I have a check-up?

Ideally within 2 weeks after an abortion or miscarriage. This confirms your womb is healing well and that there are no complications.

Is bleeding normal afterwards?

Yes — light to moderate bleeding or spotting can last 1–2 weeks and should gradually decrease. We assess whether bleeding is too heavy or too prolonged.

When can I have sex again?

Generally it's best to wait until bleeding has stopped and you feel comfortable, usually about 2 weeks. We also discuss contraception to prevent an immediate pregnancy.

Will I be able to get pregnant in future?

For most women, a single uncomplicated abortion or miscarriage does not affect future fertility. We're happy to talk through any concerns you have.
