Urinalysis Result Meaning — Protein, Blood, Leucocytes Explained

A urinalysis reports several separate findings on one strip, and each points somewhere different. Leucocytes and nitrites together suggest infection. Protein points at the kidneys. Glucose suggests diabetes. Reading them individually is what makes the result useful.

What happens next

An abnormal urinalysis is usually followed by a urine culture, which identifies the organism and which antibiotic will work. Persistent protein needs kidney function testing rather than repeated antibiotics.
