Bacterial vaginosis (BV)

Grey-white discharge with a fishy odour, especially after sex. The most common vaginal infection in Nigerian women. Treated with metronidazole, available on prescription same day.

Candidiasis (thrush)

Thick white discharge, intense itching, redness, burning. Triggered by antibiotics, diabetes, pregnancy. Treated with antifungal (clotrimazole or fluconazole).

How much is vaginal infection treatment in Lagos?
Current prices for consultation at Mascot Healthcare, Akoka are on our pricing page. A vaginal swab is taken at the same visit. Most treatments (antibiotics or antifungals) are available by prescription and at most pharmacies in Lagos.
Why can't I just buy antifungal cream from the pharmacy?
You can: if you have a clear, first-time yeast infection. But BV (which can feel identical) requires a different antibiotic, not an antifungal. Self-treating BV with antifungal cream will not work and delays the correct treatment. A swab takes 2 minutes and gives certainty.
My infection keeps coming back every month. What's wrong?
Recurrent vaginal infections (more than 4 per year) have specific causes, diabetes (makes you prone to thrush), an untreated STI, an untreated BV in the partner, or reduced immunity. Come in for a full assessment including blood sugar test.
