Explained

What is a Transvaginal Scan?

A transvaginal ultrasound is an internal examination that gives detailed images of a woman's reproductive organs. Unlike an abdominal ultrasound, it uses a specially designed transducer placed inside the vagina to get closer to the pelvic organs.

That proximity allows higher-frequency sound waves and clearer, more detailed images of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and cervix.

Key Benefits
  • More detailed images than abdominal ultrasound
  • No radiation exposure
  • Minimal discomfort during the procedure
  • Quick — typically 15–30 minutes
  • Immediate results and interpretation
Step by Step

What to Expect During Your Scan

A simple, well-tolerated procedure — here's exactly what happens.

1
Preparation

You'll empty your bladder and change into a gown. Our female staff ensure your privacy throughout.

2
Positioning

You'll lie on the table with feet in stirrups, similar to a pelvic exam, with a sheet for modesty.

3
The Scan

A small, sterile transducer (about the size of a tampon) with a protective sheath and gel is gently inserted.

4
Image Capture

The sonographer/doctor captures images from different angles. You may feel slight pressure but typically no pain.

5
Results

The scan takes about 15–30 minutes. Our doctor reviews the images and provides a full report.

Your comfort comes first. The procedure is generally well-tolerated with minimal discomfort, and our female staff ensure your privacy and dignity at every step.
