Pregnancy Test in Lagos

More sensitive than home kits. Our laboratory urine test or quantitative blood hCG confirms pregnancy as early as 10–12 days after conception — and the blood hCG provides a number that helps date the pregnancy and monitor its progress. Same-day results across Lagos.

Two Pregnancy Tests, Different Purposes

A urine hCG confirms pregnancy — quickly and inexpensively. A quantitative blood hCG provides a number that can date the pregnancy, detect ectopic implantation, and be serially monitored. Lagos patients can choose whichever fits their clinical situation.

💧

Urine hCG (Laboratory)

Our laboratory urine hCG test is more sensitive than most Lagos pharmacy home kits — detecting hCG from 20–25 IU/L versus the 50 IU/L sensitivity of many home tests. An early morning urine sample gives the most concentrated result, but any sample is acceptable. Result available within 30 minutes.

  • Positive from ~10–12 days post-conception
  • More sensitive than Lagos pharmacy kits
  • 30-minute result
  • Official laboratory report issued

Quantitative Beta hCG (Blood)

A blood test that measures the exact hCG level in IU/L. A rising hCG doubling every 48–72 hours indicates a healthy intrauterine pregnancy; a slowly rising or falling level suggests ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. Essential for Lagos IVF clinics and high-risk obstetric monitoring.

  • Detectable from ~10 days post-conception
  • Quantitative — gives actual IU/L value
  • Doubles every 48–72h in healthy pregnancy
  • Used in ectopic and miscarriage monitoring

Antenatal Booking Tests

After confirming pregnancy, Lagos antenatal guidelines recommend a full booking panel: blood group and Rh typing, FBC (anaemia screen), HBsAg, VDRL, blood sugar, urinalysis, and HIV. We offer these as a bundled antenatal panel — all from a single Lagos morning visit.

  • Blood group + Rhesus typing
  • FBC — anaemia is common in Lagos pregnancy
  • HBsAg — mother-to-child HBV prevention
  • Blood sugar — gestational diabetes screen

When Lagos Women Need a Pregnancy Test

📅
Missed period in Lagos A missed or significantly delayed period is the most common reason Lagos women seek pregnancy testing. Laboratory confirmation provides an official result for antenatal booking and workplace notification.
🌡️
Pregnancy symptoms without a positive home kit Nausea, breast tenderness, and fatigue in the absence of a positive home kit may mean the kit was used too early or has low sensitivity. Our laboratory test is more sensitive — test a few days later for clarity.
💉
After IVF or fertility treatment in Lagos Lagos IVF clinics require a quantitative blood hCG 10–14 days post-embryo transfer to confirm implantation. We provide serial quantitative hCG monitoring — the doubling pattern predicts pregnancy viability.
Pelvic pain with possible pregnancy Any Lagos woman with pelvic pain who might be pregnant needs an urgent quantitative hCG. Combined with pelvic ultrasound, this rules out ectopic pregnancy — a life-threatening emergency.
📋
Antenatal booking requirements Lagos hospitals and maternity clinics require official laboratory pregnancy confirmation before registering a patient for antenatal care. Our report is accepted at all Lagos General Hospitals and private maternity clinics.
hCG Levels by Week of Pregnancy
Week 4 post-LMP hCG 5–426 IU/L — just above detection threshold.
Week 5 hCG 18–7,340 IU/L — rapid rise. Should double every 48–72 hours.
Week 6 hCG 1,080–56,500 IU/L — gestational sac visible on pelvic USS at >1,500 IU/L.
Weeks 8–10 (peak) hCG up to 200,000 IU/L — peaks then gradually declines as placenta takes over.

Simple, No Preparation Needed

1

No Fasting Required

Neither urine nor blood pregnancy tests require fasting. Lagos patients can walk in at any time during our operating hours — Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM — without a prior appointment. For the best urine hCG sensitivity, first-morning urine is ideal but not mandatory.

2

Tell Us Your LMP Date

Please tell us the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) before we collect your sample. This context allows us to interpret a quantitative blood hCG correctly — a "low" hCG is only meaningful if we know how far along the pregnancy should be.

3

Plan for Serial Testing

If we are monitoring an early pregnancy — after IVF, suspected ectopic, or after a recent miscarriage — serial hCG measurements are needed 48 hours apart. We retain your previous hCG result and compare automatically, making Lagos serial monitoring straightforward.

🔬
High-sensitivity assay — earlier than home kits

Our laboratory hCG tests detect lower concentrations than most Lagos pharmacy kits — allowing confirmation up to 2–3 days earlier in cycle, reducing Lagos patient anxiety around ambiguous early home tests.

📋
Official Lagos antenatal booking report

Our pregnancy confirmation is printed on official headed laboratory paper — accepted at Lagos Island General Hospital, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and all Lagos private maternity clinics.

Female-friendly private environment

Pregnancy testing is a private matter. Lagos patients collect urine or give blood samples in a dignified, private environment — not at an open reception desk. Results are shared only with you.
