Yes — always bring previous imaging results if you have them. It's one of the simplest things you can do to improve the quality of your ultrasound report.
Why Old Scans Matter So Much
Radiology is often about comparison over time. A 3cm cyst sounds concerning in isolation — but if it was 3cm two years ago and hasn't changed, that's usually very reassuring. Without the old report, the same finding might trigger unnecessary follow-up scans, referrals, or worry.
Previous results help your imaging team:
- Determine whether a finding is new, stable, growing, or shrinking
- Avoid re-investigating things already explained
- Track treatment response (for fibroids, cysts, nodules, and more)
- Compare pregnancy growth measurements accurately
What to Bring
- Written reports from previous ultrasounds, CTs, MRIs, or X-rays — even from other hospitals or countries
- Images on CD/USB or app printouts, if you have them
- Blood test results relevant to the scan (e.g., thyroid function tests for a thyroid scan, PSA for prostate)
- Your referral letter from your doctor
Don't Have Your Old Results?
Tell the clinic where the previous scan was done — records can sometimes be requested. But even just knowing the approximate date and findings ("I had a fibroid seen in 2023") is genuinely useful information for the sonographer.
