Can Adults Over 26 Still Get the HPV Vaccine?

From Mascot Healthcare Clinic, Akoka (Yaba), Lagos

Hello Friend! Plenty of adults in their late twenties, thirties and forties ask us, "Have I missed the window for the HPV vaccine?" The good news is that for many people, the answer is no.

Vaccination From 27 to 45

While the vaccine is most effective when given early, adults aged 27–45 may still benefit. The decision is best made together with a healthcare provider, based on your individual circumstances — such as whether you have new or multiple partners.

"But I'm Already Sexually Active"

This does not automatically rule you out. There are several cancer-causing HPV types, and it is unlikely you have been exposed to all of them. The vaccine can still protect you against the types you have not yet encountered.

What to Expect

Adults in this age group receive the three-dose schedule over six months. Women should still continue routine Pap smear screening — the vaccine complements screening, it does not replace it.

Wondering if it's right for you? Have a quick chat with our team in Akoka (Yaba) about the HPV vaccine, and read our complete HPV vaccine guide.
