Many sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms — yet remain transmissible and cause serious long-term health consequences. A comprehensive STI panel across Lagos gives you clarity, peace of mind, and the ability to protect yourself and your partners.
Nigeria has significant STI burden — particularly syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis in Lagos. Our panel screens for the most medically important infections in a single Lagos visit.
Syphilis is experiencing a resurgence across Lagos. VDRL/RPR serology detects treponemal antibodies in blood — a simple, same-day result. Positive VDRL requires confirmatory TPHA testing. Early syphilis is cured by a single penicillin injection; untreated syphilis causes cardiovascular and neurological damage years later.
The two most common bacterial STIs — often co-infected, frequently asymptomatic. Untreated gonorrhoea and chlamydia in Lagos women cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), tubal factor infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. Urethral/endocervical swab microscopy and culture, plus chlamydia antigen testing, performed at our Akoka laboratory.
HBsAg (hepatitis B — sexually transmissible and highly prevalent in Lagos), HIV rapid screen (same-day result with pre/post counselling), and HSV-1/HSV-2 type-specific IgG (herpes blood test — works without active lesions). These three complete the comprehensive Lagos sexual health screen.
Blood-based STI tests (VDRL, HBsAg, HIV, HSV IgG) require no fasting. Walk in at any time during our Lagos laboratory operating hours — Monday to Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM. No prior appointment is needed for standard panels.
For urethral swab (men): do not urinate for 1–2 hours before the swab — urination washes away organisms that would be collected. For endocervical swab (women): no specific preparation is needed. Avoid vaginal douching 24 hours before. Tell us if you are already on antibiotics.
STI results are among the most sensitive medical data we handle. Your results are never discussed at the reception desk, never shared with family members without your consent, and never disclosed to employers. Lagos patients may request digital-only delivery to prevent paper results being seen by others.
We screen syphilis, HBsAg, HIV, herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG), gonorrhoea (swab microscopy and culture), and chlamydia antigen — a truly comprehensive Lagos sexual health screen, not just serology.
HIV and STI results are discussed in a private consultation. We explain what each result means, what action is required, and where to go for treatment in Lagos — not just a result slip and goodbye.
Results are stored under unique patient codes. No staff member discusses STI results in public areas. Lagos patients may collect results in person or request secure digital delivery.
