Nine Hormones, One Lagos Panel

Each hormone controls a different body system. Measuring them together reveals patterns that a single test misses — and explains hormonal symptoms Lagos patients have often had for years without a clear answer.

⚖️

Pituitary Hormones (LH & FSH)

LH and FSH regulate ovulation in women and sperm/testosterone production in men. Elevated FSH in women signals diminished ovarian reserve; in men it suggests testicular failure. The LH:FSH ratio guides PCOS diagnosis in Lagos patients.

  • LH surge triggers ovulation
  • FSH drives follicle development
  • LH:FSH ratio elevated in PCOS
  • Male hypogonadism classification
🌡️

Sex & Thyroid Hormones

Estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone govern reproductive health, mood, and libido. TSH and free T4 reveal thyroid status — thyroid dysfunction frequently mimics hormonal disorders and is common but under-diagnosed across Lagos.

  • Estradiol: ovarian function & cycle phase
  • Progesterone (day 21): confirms ovulation
  • Testosterone: libido, muscle, fertility
  • TSH + free T4: full thyroid picture
🧠

Prolactin & Cortisol

High prolactin suppresses ovulation and causes irregular periods or milk production outside pregnancy. Cortisol, when chronically elevated by Lagos urban stress, disrupts every other hormone axis — driving fatigue, weight gain, and insomnia.

  • Prolactin screens for pituitary adenoma
  • Prolactin elevated by stress, medication
  • Cortisol: adrenal function & HPA axis
  • Morning timing essential for cortisol

Who Should Get This Panel in Lagos?

👩
Irregular or absent periods Lagos women with oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, or cycle lengths outside 21–35 days need a full hormonal panel to identify the cause before treatment.
🤰
Difficulty conceiving After 6 months of trying (35+ years) or 12 months (under 35), a hormonal profile guides next steps. Lagos fertility clinics routinely request this panel before IUI or IVF.
Fatigue, weight gain, hair loss These symptoms overlap with thyroid disease, adrenal insufficiency, low testosterone, and estrogen imbalance. The panel differentiates them — common presentations in Lagos tertiary clinics.
💊
Before fertility treatment in Lagos IUI, IVF, or clomiphene therapy all require baseline hormonal mapping. This panel provides it in a single Lagos visit before your fertility specialist appointment.
👨
Men: low libido, ED, infertility Testosterone alone is insufficient. LH, FSH, and prolactin reveal whether the problem is testicular, pituitary, or medication-induced — particularly relevant in Lagos where anabolic steroid use is prevalent.
Normal Reference Ranges
LH Women (follicular): 1.9–12.5 IU/L  |  Men: 1.7–8.6 IU/L
FSH Women (follicular): 3.5–12.5 IU/L  |  Men: 1.5–12.4 IU/L
Progesterone (Day 21) Confirms ovulation if >30 nmol/L  |  Inadequate luteal phase if <16 nmol/L
TSH / Free T4 TSH 0.4–4.0 mIU/L  |  Free T4 9–24 pmol/L
Cortisol (8–10 AM) Normal 140–690 nmol/L  |  Low <140 needs further evaluation

Prepare for Best Results

1

Morning Fasted Sample (8–10 AM)

Come in before 10 AM after an 8-hour overnight fast. Cortisol peaks at this time; sex hormones are also more stable. Lagos patients from Lagos Island or Lekki should book early to arrive before Lagos traffic peaks. Note your cycle day — day 2–5 for basal hormones, day 21 for progesterone.

2

Medications & Supplements

Tell us about oral contraceptive pills (suppress LH/FSH), hormone therapy, antipsychotics (raise prolactin), steroids, and biotin supplements (>5 mg/day interferes with immunoassays). Do not stop medications without your doctor's guidance.

3

Avoid Stress & Intense Exercise

Avoid intense exercise and major stressors the evening before — both acutely raise cortisol and prolactin. Arrive 15 minutes early and rest seated before your Lagos laboratory sample is taken. Same-day results.

"Lagos gynaecologists kept treating my symptoms without ordering the right tests. Mascot ran a complete nine-hormone panel and found my FSH was dangerously elevated. Finally had the answer after two years."
