WHO NEEDS AN ULTRASOUND SCAN?

Contrary to common expectation of ultrasound exams being limited to pregnant women, ultrasound is usually required in evaluating unborn babies and patients of all age groups and sex.

All the parts of the body except to air filled regions such as chest and bone covered structures can be imaged with ultrasound scans.

Ultrasound examination are typically used(in conjunction with other screening tools) in screening and checking for some diseases in all age group, examples are breast ultrasound and prostate ultrasound to check for breast and prostate cancers. Annual medical examinations and disease follow up are also common uses of ultrasound scans.

Several accurate diagnosis are also made with ultrasound scans in emergency and outpatient settings.
