You may have to do a breast scan as an investigation of any breast related symptom or as part of routine checkup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you can generally expect during a breast scan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the Ultrasound Scan:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Preparation<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Usually, no special preparation is needed for a breast ultrasound scan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wear a two-piece outfit to easily undress from the waist up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">During the Ultrasound Scan:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Positioning<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will be asked to lie down on your back or slightly turned to one side on an examination table with hands placed behind(above) your head.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The breasts and armpits will be exposed, so you will need to undress from the waist up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Application of Gel<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The operator will apply a non-irritating  water-based gel to your breasts. This gel helps to transmit sound waves and ensures good contact between the transducer and your skin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scanning<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The  doctor will use a small handheld device called a transducer. This device emits high-frequency sound waves and captures the echoes that bounce back from the breast tissue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The transducer is moved back and forth over the breast area to capture images from different angles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You might feel slight pressure, but the procedure is typically painless.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Image Capture<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The sound waves create images of the breast tissue on a computer screen, which the doctor will review in real-time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important images are saved or printed during the procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the Ultrasound Scan:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cleanup<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The gel will be wiped off from your skin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can get dressed immediately after the procedure.:  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Your doctor will discuss the results with you or during a follow-up appointment or teleconsultation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the Ultrasound Scan Can Detect:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cysts (fluid-filled sacs) within the breast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solid masses (which could be cancerous or non-cancerous)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changes in breast tissue structure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages of Breast Ultrasound Scan:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Affordable, non-invasive and painless.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective for examining dense breast tissue in younger women and breast-feeding women.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No exposure to ionizing radiation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Useful for evaluating abnormalities found in a mammogram.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A breast scan is a non-invasive imaging test used to evaluate abnormalities in the breast tissue.
