Plasma cells are an essential part of the immune system as they produce antibodies to fight infections. When these cells become cancerous, they can proliferate uncontrollably, leading to various health issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multiple myeloma occurs when abnormal plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow, crowding out healthy blood cells. These cancerous cells produce abnormal proteins (monoclonal proteins or M proteins) that can cause organ damage.
